Flow types

IoT Logic implements two general flow types that work together to ensure data integrity across your whole user account.

Default flow

A default flow is a pre-configured simple data transmission flow whose goal is to route data from all devices in the account to the Navixy platform. It is included in every Navixy account and consists of two fundamental nodes:

  1. Default Input - Automatically collects data from all devices not assigned to custom flows, functioning as a universal data collector

  2. Default Output Endpoint - Delivers standardized data to the Navixy platform, ensuring visibility of all devices in the main interface

This flow acts as a continuity mechanism that guarantees no device data is ever lost due to configuration issues. The default flow operates as a "catch-all" system that requires no setup or maintenance, protecting critical data transmission paths without requiring technical intervention.

From a business and operation benefits perspective, the default flow:

  • Eliminates implementation overhead by providing immediate functionality for all devices

  • Prevents data loss through automatic device management

  • Creates administrative stability by maintaining a protected, unchangeable data path

  • Maintains system reliability through complete data coverage across all connected devices

This approach allows business stakeholders to focus on core operations without worrying about technical configurations. As organizational needs evolve, specific devices can be transitioned to custom flows for enhanced processing while maintaining the reliability of the default system for standard operations.

Custom flow

A custom flow represents a strategic solution that transforms standard device data into higher-value intelligence tailored to specific objectives. By extending beyond the default flow, custom flows enable businesses to create proprietary data assets that cover various data sources, enrich the received data and send it to multiple different destinations.

When implemented effectively, custom flows deliver measurable business outcomes:

  • Revenue enhancement - Transform basic location data into customer engagement opportunities through enriched contextual information

  • Cost reduction - Automate complex data transformations that would otherwise require expensive custom development or manual processing

  • Risk mitigation - Ensure consistent data delivery to multiple systems simultaneously, eliminating single points of failure

  • Operational efficiency - Standardize data formats across diverse device types, reducing integration complexity and maintenance costs

  • Strategic flexibility - Create adaptable data flows that can evolve alongside changing business requirements

Custom flows achieve these outcomes by incorporating the Initiate Attribute node, which applies business logic to raw device data through the Navixy IoT Logic expression language. This allows you to create calculated attributes that directly support specific business objectives without technical complexity.

Relationship between flows

The interaction between default and custom flows follows important business governance principles that protect data integrity while enabling specialized processing:

  1. Complete data coverage - Every device in your organization always has a defined data path, ensuring no operational blind spots

  2. Exclusive device assignment - Each device belongs to exactly one flow at any time. When you add a device to a custom flow, it is automatically removed from the default flow, eliminating redundant processing while ensuring all devices are continuously transmitting data

  3. Priority-based assignment - Custom flows take precedence over the default flow, allowing strategic allocation of specialized processing to devices that deliver the greatest business value

  4. Automatic fallback - Devices removed from custom flows automatically return to the default flow, maintaining business continuity without requiring manual intervention

This structured relationship ensures that your business maintains complete visibility across all connected devices while applying enhanced processing exactly where it delivers maximum value.

For executive stakeholders, custom flows represent an opportunity to maximize return on IoT investments by creating proprietary data assets from standard device information. This transforms IoT from a technical implementation into a strategic business capability that drives measurable value.
